Greenery, 2017 Pantone Color of the Year in Interior Design

The color gurus at Pantone annually choose a hue that they feel will embody the global cultural trends for the year. For 2017, Pantone forecasts a desire for freshness, renewal, and rejuvenation amidst our increasingly tech-dependent society and have illustrated that inclination in “Greenery.” The color evokes a feeling of spring and newness; it's fresh and bright and full of life. Being fabric gurus, we eagerly await the color release every year to envision new possibilities in interior design and to anticipate such tendencies in the home decor textile industry that might include the highlighted color, and we’ve already seen trends of late toward brighter palettes and both modern and classic botanical patterns.

More or Less

Greenery can be a rather bold color, so while we've seen some brilliant rooms bedecked in the hue, we don't anticipate heavy usage in most homes. Neutral palettes are still widely appreciated for their sedateness and versatility, but adding splashes of color brings a bit of character to an otherwise void space without overloading the senses. Greenery is one of those vibrant and playful yet clean and natural colors that, when used sparingly, would bring a touch of brightness and interest to a space.

In Combination

Alone, Greenery evokes a very definite impression, but it's also a versatile color that falls naturally into a wide range of palettes. It adds balance to color combinations with other similarly saturated hues but tends to dominate the scene when used with paler, more neutral colors. Visit Pantone's color of the year article for some palette inspiration, or check out P. Tree's hand-picked favorites on Instagram or Facebook featuring similar greens from our current fabric selection.

We are eager to see what kind of response our customers and the global interior design community will have to Greenery over the course of 2017.
